    Pros: cant think of any.

Cons: its meant for cars, can cause clutch slippage if its not JASO MA standard.
And 20w50 is not the right grade for our bike. its 20w40.
But 20w50 may be useful for longer rides to maintain smoothness, but may cause sluggishness at colder temp.

You could try shell advance, its 20w40, i'm using it now, pretty good on the engine too.

Hey thanks falcon... Actually I was planning to go to my home town this weekend.. Its a 2 hour drive and I felt that at high temperatures the engine was rough... So thought I could go for a higher grade...

I think the cold start up will not cause any problem coz the both have the same viscosity reading as 20 [Please correct me here if I'm wrong]... I just browsed through the following link in team-bhp... check it out...

Using w50 is a good idea for long rides actually.
even i noticed that the engine gets rough when hot.

I wasnt referring to cold start exactly, just normal riding before the engine gets warm.
Not too sure about it though, i just heard that 20w50 oil is thicker and causes sluggishness. i could be wrong.

But i think you shouldn't use shell helix, not suited for our wet clutch bikes.
You could try some w50 oil meant for bikes.

Try asking in the engine oil guide thread too. they'll be able to help you out.

Using W50 in rough engines like CBZ Classic, Classic pulsar 150 would do well cos thicker oil helps in reducing vibes @ higher RPM's & also help overcome excessive heat.( from my personal exp)

Their may be several cons of using W50 in place of W40 but only one which I have experienced until now is bike doesn't rev freely.

Thier is no harm in trying if you find the oil good & is meeting your requirement & provided you are out of your warranty period I do not see any problem that one should'nt try W50 engine oil

              • Sorry for spamming , have anyone considered changing crash guard as it seems very small compared to crash guard sizes of other bikes?

                • In fact I felt the same way after seeing a crashed GS, The tank was dented badly and the handle bar bent. but the crash guard had hardly taken any impact. I'm considering the Hunk's butterfly crash guard. Hope it helps. Has anyone tried sourcing crash bobbins for your bike?

Im considering the crash guard of Hunk as well. I asked about its compatibility twice but no one gave a reply. Service centre is on my way to college will ask about that.

Could you suggest any oil that helps overcome heat, can withstand higher temps, and doesnt ruin the free revving of the bike ?
But i cant use SS or FS oil yet. i've only used it for 2100km
I've been looking for some oil like this from a long time.
using shell advance now. it seems good till engine gets hot. like the previous oil i used(veedol) and the oil that came with the bike.
vibes isnt much of an issue as it doesnt vibrate, but that sound is annoying( its like a badly tuned pulsar, hope this gives a good description )

I have'nt used much of Minerals except for the ones I used to get in ASC ( which is HH Oil ) but once I had used motul mineral 15w50 or 20W50 I dont rem correctly it was very good for 2k kms, apart from that thier is good review for Elf moto 4 gold, Gulf pride & now a days I hear from the lube shop near my house that castrol activ ( with synthetic technology) is in full swing you may consider this as well.

the best result will only be with Fully synthetic or semi synthetic oil cause they last longer & can handle engine temp up to higher.

Anup, do post here about what the SC guys told about changing the crash guard. Does Suzuki have a better one or should we get them from other bikes?
Quit tabulating grudges. Let it off. Discuss it, then trash it, don't recycle it.

Hey Falcon.....You have run only 2100kms in the bike???!!!
It has been a long time you have purchaed the bike if I am not wrong...don't you run it much???

Anyway if you do not want to go for FS or SS oil yet...you can go for the MOTUL 3100 4T PLUS....it is a mineral oil and is the best one in mienral oil category....
MOTUL oils are well known worldwide for performance....
It costs about 190Rs/ltr. And is really a VFM product....You can get it from Cherry agencies in Minerva circle in bangalore. They are authorised dealers for MOTUL.
They even have stock of FS and SS oils of Motul....

On my way back college i asked SC guys about the crash guard. They said that its the only available one. No one had asked for a replacement, they asked some time to check which one will be compatible. Will give you a personal message when i get a reply from them.
