I asked the Service Manager that if any special servicing for Engine is required after I complete 1,00,000 KMS. Manager said not required. Regular servicing will do. I have to see whether the ODO is six digit or it will roll over. I plan to change rear tyre @ 1,00,000 KmS. This will be the third tyre. The first tyre lasted 50,000 KMS.

    Offence taken.

        Hey All,

I've been facing some problem with my disc brake.

The lever has been very spongy, going all the way to touch the accelerator grip, and the brake very very meek (not at all confidence inspiring; weaker than drums). This has been the case for the past 15-20K kms. Every time I give my vehicle for servicing and get this issue listed in the job card, all that they'd do is top up the master cylinder and promise me that it'd take a few kms running/usage for the lever to get tightened. And that never used to happen. When I try to escalate the issue, all that I get to hear is "no spares, saar". And over the period of time, my driving became very staid.

Fed up of this, I started thinking of getting this issue fixed. And, in the meanwhile, I noticed that Saboo (Ranjigunj) does good service. So, I gave my bike last week for brake inspection. He called me up after two days and said that he tested it extensively and tried to fix it (by oil bleeding, etc.,) and with a new piston but to no avail. He further informed me that piston, cupset and master cylinder needs replacement and that the whole bill is expected to come around Rs.1700/-. As of now, I'm waiting for a brake lever spare to arrive before getting my whole master cylinder assembly replaced. Does this cost 1700 bucks really?

        • Help please!

          Freinds,
My ride is 40 days old now. Till the First service, the mileage was 52 Km. After the service I had filled 10 litres and had rode 380 kms since then . There was no much change to the driving style except for some revving.
Today morning, I started my bike and had to kick from 6-8 times and then use electric start for 2-3 time to get the beast into life. I rode for a Km and felt that the engine is not pulling up and had hiccups just like runing out of fuel. It stopped. My efforts to start the engine again went in vain. Called Suzuki service center and they asked to briung the bike to SVC some how. Then I filled petrol for 100 Rs and the tried starting with Choke on, it started but as soon as I released the choke it failed. Then again started with the choke on and it started. Rode to office with the choke on for 5 kms then tried releasing the choke ....thank god there were no issues and reached office slowwly.
          My doubts here are
          1. If petrol is the problem, then, I had driven only 40 kms from the reserve & the fule indicator was not blinking to warn on emptly fuel.
          2. The mileage till the problem occured is 38 KMs
          Team,
Can anyone help me identify what the problem is and I am going to the SVC in the evening?

Did you hear any puff... noise (noise of air gushing in) when opening the fuel cap for a refill.
I had a problem early on with my bike which used to stop every 5-10 kms and I had to open the fule tank cap and realease air before restarting it. This disappeared automatically after 500 kms however you can ask the SVC center to clear the breather hole on the bike.

Well there is a surprise element involved in riding a GS. You can sneak up on someone so silently and just whizz past them at 70. People don't just realize how fast you can go just because the engine is so silent.

Got my bike last week after 4th service.. Bike is as smooth as it has always been.. and gears are also smooth..

Didnt change engine oil this time.. and they said air filter is in good condition..so didnt change that as well.

I have informed them about a small qweek sound from the brake for which they changed some nut.. but the sound is still there..

                1. Check the calliper bracket for debris on its pin. Remove the deposits on it which hinders it’s free movement. If it cannot be cleaned, replace it together with its bushes.

                2. Air and moisture gets compressed while braking. This is the problem of Venky’ bike. Knowing not how the disc brake functions, he complained about the squeaking noise from the brake and the mechanic opened the brake bleeding nut and allowed air enter the brake line. This does not release the brake discs but lowers the braking power. So, remove the air and moisture completely by reverse brake bleeding method.

                3. Replace the piston and cup set in the master cylinder.

                4. Replace the calliper cylinders and ‘O’ rings.

                5. Replace the master cylinder.

                6. Replace the calliper assembly, brake hose and master cylinder.

Replacing the calliper bracket and bushes and a reverse brake bleeding will solve the problem; I hope.

Master cylinder costs Rs. 1400/-, piston and cup set Rs. 275/-, calliper pistons Rs. 160/-, spring pad in the disc brake Rs. 50/- and calliper assembly Rs. 1600/- (all approximately).

Use good DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid from Castrol or Bosch. The main difference between DIT 3 and DOT 4 fluids is the boiling point and viscosity. DOT 4 absorbs more moisture and hence earlier replacement becomes necessary.

Do all these works yourself. Don’t forget to buy a brake bleeding nipple and spring pad in the disc brake.

At last a few nice words from you about our bike! What you felt is a surprise to you but not to any other GS owner. At high RPMs in 6th gear, GS is almost silent.

Even i too noticed the same thing. I didnt see a GS on the showroom when i went to collect my bike after fourth service from apple autos, BTM layout. And when i went to native last week, i found that GS is missing from the front rows of many suzuki showrooms in kerala. (checkd for the bike when passing by). Donno what is happening.

Nothing special; I think. Suzuki is now concentrating on Hayate. They are trying to promote the sales of it even by giving special incentives to the show room sales men as more than 60% of the bikes on road in India belong to 100-110 cc category.

But, at any time, large number of GSs were not stocked by any dealer. More than that, a number of higher cc bikes are available in our market and demand for 150 cc bikes is diminishing slowly. To meet the increasing demand for higher cc bikes, a 250 cc Suzuki bike has started crawling from Japan towards India; it is heard. Let us hope it reaches here in 2025 or 2030 when nobody needs it.

Get the air vent to the fuel tank cleaned at the service centre. That will solve this problem.

90 k ?, Fantastic. If the ODO has a sixth digit, it should come on during the self-check - I myself have not observed this - will do it as the the first thing tomorrow. Also learnt from the other forum that you changed the fork oil at 25 k. Shouldn't we do it every 10k - or does it endure upto 25 k ? Also can you please tell the amount of oil for each fork, the manual doesn't mention it. How often did you change the spark plug (and what of the 2 types mentioned in the manual) and air filter? Can you also tell whether your GS required things like checking valve clearances and repacking grease in wheel bearings? (I have never seen my Honda SC perform the same on my now-sold 62 k Eterno).

But I still cannot believe that your bike is wobbling as it is impossible to control a wobbling bike at 80 kmh speed. More than that, your bike was checked by Suzuki’s regional service manager.
