I was under the impression till now that capacity excluding reserve is 15.

g K, I have not planned any ride for now. Why don't fill the tank to the brim and let us know instead? For me, it doesn't matter if the tank can hold exceeding 15L. But looks like you are onto something and the best thing about knowing things is to try finding out ourselves. Just my thoughts.

Well Ive bought the recently (2nd hand) so I'm onto finding the mileage My running is actually pretty low so going to reserve and then full tank would take a lot of time for me.

Anyways, whoever gets a chance to check (including me), please post!

Jeez......

1. If you are going to use sparingly, why bother what's the tank capacity?
2. To know mileage, there are easier method..ie reserve to reserve. Simple.

Boss as I said on the ZMR thread as well, 15L is the full capacity including reserve. I got it confirmed from my mech in the morning as well. Its the same funda in ZMR too, just that it has 3.5L of usable reserve.

Boss in the end you said no idea about ZMA so I turned here for confirmation.

Yes, I did because you were not content with the petrol tank capacity of the ZMR.
Since we don't own a ZMA (most of us ZMR owners), we couldn't be sure.

Regarding the range on a long tour, keep 450 kms on a ZMA as a benchmark with tank full of gas.

Zma can hold 17L comfortably , on completly empty tank, if you want to tank up to the brim , it will take max 0.5 to 0.6ltrs more. I regularly fill at shell , so the chances of cheating on quantity is very less. 15 days back also filled 15.5ltrs few kms after hitting reserve. So that should answer your question.

Take it as 15 Liters including Reserve and 33 Kms FE, and calculate your requirement....It is better to calculate for less FE and tank capacity, than be overly optimistic and get stranded..Like Mr.Sriram said, experience it first hand, than guessing which is more meaningful.

Absolutely right. Here's what I did when I claimed 450 kms as the range - 13L (excluding reserve, for emergencies) multiplied by 35 kmpl (as average) = 455 kms.
But, one can gauge his bike accurately only by experiencing it in person.

Absolutely! It's better to be safe than to be sorry. Also know which way the reserve knob points . If you are in 'reserve mode' and run out of petrol along the way, it'd be troublesome on the highway.

Last trip, I got 38, this trip, the first leg, only 31, as I had shared with you

Exactly Divya Sharan.
When I did a trip a few months ago (I had the G Power spark plug), I got 37.9 to 38 the first round. I filled in 14L after hitting reserve here in my city. It took me comfortably to my destination over 450kms. On the way back, I filled in fuel - tank full, which came to 12L. While returning, I took a longer route - 550kms to my city and I hit reserve just near home. It came out to 38ish on the ZMA, which was a very good mileage for travelling so comfortably.
Unfortunately, this time around, I had changed the G Power to a normal NGK, I ran into reserve at about 430kms on the route from full tank. Filled in a litre to get to my destination, and then filled in 15L (then had set the AFR to be a bit leaner). I got back comfortably, but the mileage had reduced - on the way to my destination it was 31, on the way back, it came to 33-33.5 . Very low, and I'm investigating the issues behind the low mileage. The first thing I did on returning was fit the G Power back in!

Those who tour on bikes, little worry on their tank capacity. Judgemental mileage in head and wise enough to fill fuel at appropriate time will ensure you reach home than running out of petrol in middle of highway. I don't know what's my bike's FE now since initial days of new purchase. I go calculate on rough 350kms tank range and sometimes even tank it up if next halt has to go through a distance. Just being practical rather being scientific.

There are a couple of routes in J&K/Ladakh that are well above 500KMs without a petrol bunk, so I better not start on this! (yeah yeah I know we can carry extra fuel )
And yeah obv I know which way to point the knob.

I was actually going through old pages in the ZMR and ZMA thread and owners reported ~550-600KMs on a tank full. Thus ~450 seemed less. Anyways I had posted that on a lighter note.
