Since the oil is new, you have to open the drain nut, collect the oil in a pan, and after replacing the "O" ring use the drained oil once again.

Thanks Sir...I will ask for the same at service center today. Its very hard to believe that mechanic did not replace it himself when I reported this problem.Today morning I have sended a long mail to zonal office of heromotocorp for the neglegence I felt at service center.

is this?

Dear Concern,

This is to bring to your notice that I
purchased new Karizma-R engine no- MC38EDDGJ00098, Chassis No- MBLMC38EFDGJ00118
on 16/09/2013 from R.S Automobiles, Singar Nagar, Kanpur road-Lucknow.First
service done on- 27/09/2013.

1) From the first day of delivery I was
observing an immense vibration from engine area, I went to service center 2-3
times before first service for this issue but no one in service center was able
to find the reason for this problem, moreover they were not accepting that If
there is any problem of severe vibrations.I reoprted this problem in first
service job card also. Ultimately I found myself the reason for severe
vibrations- Engine mounting bolts on RHS and Swing arm bolts o RHS was moving
freely on its axis, then I tightened myself and problem rectified.

2) Few
days back I changed engine oil at service center at 1400kms, after this I am
observing engine oil leakage and dripping from drain bolt. Please find attached
pic.Yesterday I went to service center for this problem but without identifying
root cause and without opening job card mechanic just tightened drain bolt.Again
today morning I saw engine oil dripping from drain bolt.

It is very
shameful for the company like Heromotocorp for not having qualified and trained
technicians and not performing quality checks before delivery of a motorcycle.I
cant go service center multiple times for a single problem because of my job
profile. Please help me to sort out oil leakage issue.

Some dishonest mechanics are to be blamed because they charge the customer for the full price of OE and pocket the rest.
Fake market thrives because of us. How? Let me explain. It is because we are not careful of what we replace. Some examples:- 1. Spark plug- We change spark plug and throw away the old one. It is collected by rag pickers or even the mechanics and is sold at Rs.10 each to local companies. A typical garage changes approx 10 spark plugs a day on average. So they get Rs.100 daily extra income. But the local companies take it clean it properly, re-pack it and send it to market. Thus you get a fake spark plug that is original in brand and looks. What we can do is after we change spark plug break the white insulator of the old spark plug so that they cannot be used by local companies.2. Engine oil- We change engine oil and throw the bottle. What happens is that people collect bottles from garage and sell it at Rs.4-5 for each bottle. These bottles end up in those factories which recycle the used engine oil and pack it up in these bottles and thus looks original.Break the bottle after changing engine oil so that no one can use the bottle after that. It can only be used for plastic re-cycling and not re-packaging.3. Brake pads and shoes- After replacing the brake pads bend the metal pad by using a hammer and in case of brake shoe break the spring the edges of metal by hammering it.

As PSR sir has said change the o-ring in the drain bolt. If any shop replies there is no o-ring then ask them to give you splendor tappet cap o-ring. Almost same and works like a charm.

No need to replace the o-ring. What you can do is make the bike tilt the right side and open the drain cap and replace the oil. Since your is faired bike get two pillows and place it under the fairing and slowly let the bike rest on it towards the right. Then open the drain cap and change the o-ring.

Oh, so my mech was right. I'd once broken the drain bolt while trying to open it with a ring spanner and since it was too tight it got broken while opening.
Anyways, I drained the oil and dragged my bike for 2 kms till the mech shop. He had a new drain bolt, but not the black O ring. Initially he said he'd put the same O ring from the old drain bolt, but later he fixed Splendor's tappet cap O ring and asked me not to worry. But, as usual I was worried and I bought the OE part from the SVC spare shop next day and got it replaced.

As per 2013 MSDS of Shell Rimula R4 the calcium Alkeryl is now low and in R3x it had been introduced...so it is better to use recent batch of R3x at 260/- than R4 at 310/-.. I am using the older R3x for the past1,700 Kms and the oil is still behaving and looking good..

Hi ppl,
Went to a 40km ride to Mahabalipuram last week. Loved riding it. Rode at an average of 80kmph while topping out at 120 even with winds. Just a few issues:
1. FE is about 27. AFR at 3.5.
2. Stock tires skidding on tiny gravel, sand (the kind which is found at the side of the road)
3. Water build up under the petrol tank cap in heavy rain, which leads to a bit of water drops inside the petrol tank.

On a side note, rode my friend's new thunderbird 350. Made a couple of observations.
A. It accelerates to 100 faster but struggles to go beyond 105.
B. Found it a little more comfortable for seating.
C. Body and handlebar vibrate like anything. Was a major put off for me.
Bottomline: I like the zma better.

1) How did you calculate FE? With AFR at 3.5 you should get 35 to 38 on the highway easily (all other things being normal). Please look up the earlier pages in the thread mentioning about how to set the AFR correctly.
2) Most tyres will skid on the tiny gravel+sand, you will need button types like Ceat Gripp or similar in case you're going off roading.
3) Replace the rubber seal on the tank cap, also check the inner seal. Most importantly, ensure the drain hole (you'll see a small hole next to the fuel fill opening when you open the cap) is not clogged. If necessary have it cleaned up, and inject some water with an injection etc. The water should flow down the drain pipe (through and out the petrol tank) and drip outside the bike. If this is clogged, there's every chance of water mixing with the fuel.

Side note
a) No way a 350 out accelerates a ZMA in good condition.
b) Many say the bullet is comfortable, but the ZMA is equally good for touring, as many have observed.

Enjoy your ride, and keep posting.

If this is clogged, there's every chance of water mixing with the fuel.

a) No way a 350 out accelerates a ZMA in good condition.
b) Many say the bullet is comfortable, but the ZMA is equally good for touring, as many have observed.

1. I'm sure I set the AFR at 3.5. 'll check it anyway if I miscalculated the turns. Calculated fe from reserve to reserve after fuelling for 500rs. ~6.5l. Arrived at 27 based on 4-5 cycles like that. Tire pressure 25/32. Also note that my bike has done 2k kms and has finished just one service. ankit.traveller bought his ride about the same time as me. How FE much are you getting?

2. I read your review of ceat zoom tires and you had mentioned that they don't skid on the tiny gravel. Was thinking of installing those. So our roads are considered off road now?:P

3. Will get it looked at by the asc on the next visit. I'm pretty sure a few drops have mixed with the fuel, but haven't seen it affecting the bike. Though if I don't remove the rest of the water, like i did the first time, the carb slide got stuck.

Side note
A. I didn't compare as it is. I just felt the acceleration was more effortless and quicker.
B. Agreed, the zma is very comfortable too.

Ha Ha ha... I just got up then. Had a g2g ride at 5. Check the manual. Air pressure should be 29/33.

I am using the older R3x for the past1,700 Kms and the oil is still behaving and looking good..
Rimula R4 is still going strong after 1700+ kms. The first time, the oil turned blackish at about 1500, I presume it did a good job of cleaning up the engine. Now, in this round, it's golden-brown. Gear shifts are still smooth, and the engine did not heat up at speed or in traffic either. I forgot to put a couple of drops on filter paper to check the oil. In any case, the behaviour of the oil is such that I presume it could go to 2500kms without a need for change.

Good way to check is the R to R method. You shouldn't be getting such a low mileage. Please check the condition of the spark plug to confirm whether you're running too rich.
With the G-Power, on my last trip, I got 38ish on the highway, and about 31-33 in the city. I changed to the normal NGK spark plug as my g-power had gone for replacement. My FE had come down to 31ish on the highway, which was very surprising.

I wanted to check what other conditions were there that reduced the FE so drastically. Spark Plug/Air filter (which was clean btw)/Tyre pressure (was OK)/Chain too tight or not lubricated (need to check if it's too tight, however I had used ROLON chain lubricant before leaving for my trip).

The Ceat zooms have performed amazingly well on the highway, there was no loss of traction in any conditions except at a small stretch across the MP border which was like a moonscape. Even large vehicles were sliding around there, so I wasn't too worried about the performance.
If you suspect that water has mixed with fuel, please have the tank drained completely and fill in new fuel.

As for acceleration, the ZMA's is very smooth throughout the gears. Unless your clutch plates are worn, you should easily notice the difference between the two vehicles. Even better is when you're at a speed of 70-80 and want to overtake a vehicle, you just need to twist the throttle a bit, and the ZMA will effortlessly go to 100.

For the ZMA, it's 25/29 single rider and 25/33 with pillion. I usually put in 25/30.

Wavy up and down roads along the way are fun to traverse.

Into MP - after crossing the border and on the way to Jhabua. This is like a regular moonscape. You stop and consider going left or right. To the left is a big crater, and to the right is skittish sand.

Taking the right seems safer, but you can see larger vehicles doing slides. The Ceat Zooms performed admirably in this terrain too.
