Plug shows rich AFR when you get bike out of showroom the default setting is 4 turns which i am usingOriginally posted by vivekarizma View Postthe best I have got until now is 43 and the worst is 35. I got these figures without touch the stock settings of the carburetor. But today I turned the AFR screw 90 degrees anticlockwise after checking the spark plug. Now on which direction should I turn the AFR screw in order to get performance and mileage as 50:50. I too dont know the stock settings of my ZMA!!please help guys!!??!!
3.5 is the best setting for zma r ,i suggest run slightly rich
ie 4 turns but if you want some more FE make it 3.5 . BUT DONT GO LESSER THAN THAT AND DAMAGE THE ENGINE . between why you fiddled with AFR ? any particular reasons? i havnt touched that thing till now
and for both services i checked the screw position before and after service am happy with the current setting

I think I am writing this for the 1,000th time...Turning AFR screw clockwise =lean mix and anticlockwise = rich....Originally posted by vivekarizma View Postthe best I have got until now is 43 and the worst is 35. Turn the afr screw clockwise Gently till it stops...then turn it anti-clockwise by 4 full 360 degress turn....If you want FE turn it clockwise by one full turn from this position ..When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Thanks psr sir and others. I now turned the screw 90 degrees clockwise and it regained the stock settings (hopefully). Thank god I perfectly marked everything before proceeding with my stupid action (turning it anticlockwise from stock settings). should I check the spark plug colour after few kms to make sure that all is perfect??Originally posted by psr View PostI think I am writing this for the 1,000th time...Turning AFR screw clockwise =lean mix and anticlockwise = rich....

You can always do that to make sure.Originally posted by vivekarizma View PostThanks psr sir and others. I now turned the screw 90 degrees clockwise and it regained the stock settings (hopefully). The way I remember it is by considering AFR screw to be like a tap which allows the flow of petrol to the engine. Any tap when rotated clockwise will reduce the flow of the out coming liquid (here petrol) and vice-versa.Originally posted by psr View PostI think I am writing this for the 1,000th time...Turning AFR screw clockwise =lean mix and anticlockwise = rich....

I have a foot pump .. got transparent tube of correct size to fit the drain tube ( to check float level ) ...need to buy that float needle then ( the rubber tipped tiny valve thingy no ? ) is it ok to buy that from local parts shop or ... OEM only ? As for carb cleaner , I intend to use a toothbrush , what about the solvent ? I got isopropyl-alcohol , paint-thinner , mineral-spirits , acetone , petrol , diesel , kerosene , naptha-solvent here . Or just use detergent solution in hot water ? ( a mechanic suggested it as best ... needs much time to dry afterwards though ) .Originally posted by psr View PostAn overflow is sure sign of either a stuck float or float needle wear..Buy the float needle before opening the carb,so that in one sitting you can correct the problem.Try to blow compressed air through the jets ,both pilot and main jet...by using a foot pump or regular cycle pump if you have....otherwise blow with your mouth.
You will see sediments in the float bowl bottom which you should clean completely.A one year carb., is not likely to give you any other problem.
Good luck to your DIY.
yeah bhai , last time I did this was with the Spaco carb on my vespaOriginally posted by sunny_ View Post@PSR Sir, thank you very much for the info, diagram, and the links to those articles.. Next experiment is the carb. Lets see..
. Also the mikuni on my rx-135 twice . Keihin carbs are said to be finicky , so i've never touched the one on cbz-x myself .
I think this plug chop shows about the correct mix for what you wantOriginally posted by vivekarizma View Postguys today took out my spark plug to the the AFR mix of my bike. the below pic shows the colour of my spark plug. Is my bike running in perfect condition??if not wat am I supposed to in order to get better FE and performance. currently I have turned the AFR screw 90 degrees anti clockwise!!!please reply soon as I am standing with the spark plug in one hand and mouse in the other!!!!! i need performance and mileage as 50:50
. Clean out the carbon deposits carefully , check plug gap and refit . You'll be ok .

The float level needs no attention, and setting, and to check the correct level you have to open the carb., float bowl, hold the carb upside down and measure the distance between the top of float to the carb bowl resting surface.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostI have a foot pump .. got transparent tube of correct size to fit the drain tube ( to check float level ) ...need to buy that float needle then ( the rubber tipped tiny valve thingy no ? ) is it ok to buy that from local parts shop or ... The rubber tipped float needle is OE and is the best in keeping correct petrol level without overflow problem.
If your carburettor is CV then don't use carb cleaner spray as it will damage the Vacuum rubber membrane around the slide. Iso-propyl alcohol is the best cleaning agent...for adament deposits hard to clean Acetone is the best..but beware Acetone is a carcinogen and you should wear surgical gloves while handling it, or even engine oil, or petrol.Last edited by psr; 09-09-2011, 08:08 PM.When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Going to book a ZMA-R Today
Hi All,
For the past 2 months i have been following this thread on a daily basis. I had decided to book the ZMA around Diwali but seems i can't wait any more. Diwali looks like decades away.
Being Onam, I will be visiting Millennium Motors , Bangalore today afternoon to pay the booking amount and possibly a test ride too. The dealer has quoted about 92K OTR for the Bike + 3K for optional accessories (like remote lock, helmet etc). I hope i have been quoted the correct price for the bike.
What i shall like to know from the owners here is that whether the bike
comes with Saree guard and crash guard as standard fitment or is it charged for ? In case i don't want saree guard (is it mandatory by law btw?) will it save me few hundreds ?
One more thing is that i shall like to go for tubeless tires for front and rear from day 1, will it be possible to get a good deal at the HH dealer to get this done ? Any suggestions for tires will be helpful.

In Chennai ZMA-R price is 85 K approximate..Remote lock not necessary, as it involves hacking into the stock wiring...If ASC is willing to do it and cover guarantee, and if you want it, then go for it.

Saree guard is mandatory for registration, and removal on registered bike is also punishable by law....
ZMA does not come with crash guard ..you can try fitting CBZ-X or some other suitable guard later.

I think you should speak to the ASC on this and they may agree to it...It all depends on your understanding with the ASC

Yikes,Here its 86K on Road.As psr sir said, anti locking need modifications on electricals ,Do it only if your svc gives you warranty,There are many two wheeler security systems with warranty available in the market.Originally posted by shubhamAT View PostThe dealer has quoted about 92K OTR for the Bike + 3K for optional accessories (like remote lock, helmet etc). I would say keep the Saree Guard it will protect your bike's left side from falls. What i shall like to know from the owners here is that whether the bike

You mean the stock tires of ZMR?One more thing is that i shall like to go for tubeless tires for front and rear from day 1, will it be possible to get a good deal at the HH dealer to get this done ? Any suggestions for tires will be helpful.

Hi Aneesh, thanks for the replies. I will keep the saree guard then. I had not really looked into ZMR stock tire specs until you mentioned it. The front in ZMR is a bit wider at 3.15 inches (80 MM) vs 2.75 in ZMA. The load index for the front tires also differs between ZMA and ZMR. I guess this should not be an issue. The rear tire specs are the same except for tubeless thingy. Will talk to showroom guy about this.
