Only 38 on hard ripping?! Dude! That's excellent mileage for a 200cc mill! Mine gives 35 under hard ripping and ~40 in city. So be happy your bike is giving a good performance.
    33 km/l under what conditions?

Please read user's manual about running-in period

But my question is this - does such a powerful bike get spoiled just by revving to 8-9K?!
I revved my bike above 7k once or twice during running-in and now what's happened? Nothing! Very short bursts for a few seconds during running in helps open up the engine and familiarise it throughout the rev range. But of course, redllining should be avoided. That's just too much work on the piston rings. You can teach a 7 month-old baby to walk, but not put him on a treadmill, I hope you get the implied meaning. Modern engines are so well built that, given the riding conditions as such, they are likely to never seize or go faulty.
Sometimes even I couldn't control myself during run-in but rest assured, the engine wouldn't be damaged at ~7k rpms.
IMHO the running-in speeds in the manual are crap and make the engine lug. I'm sure many here will agree.

Yeah, got em repaired. After the mechanic did the handlebar job, I've had some mild sporty vibes on both the handles which I ENJOY TO THE CORE as compared to the smooth vibe-free nature of the older handlebar! Yep the rim tapes compliment the blue colour. I've also gotten white LED's in front for the pilots and am saving up for a hid+projector setup. I've seen ones on fb that look too good.
Go for the rip tapes, you'll like them.

    • Highway - High speed Ride

Aside from the near death experience. My observations during the Ride to Nandhi Hills were the bike is so quiet in-spite of hitting 127km/h. When compared to the Duke the I understood what the reviewers meant that the pulsar 200 does things with zero drama. Aside from the light Vibes on the handle bar it is so smooth when compared to the Duke. The Duke makes you think you pro biker, so much feed back.
There was an incident when I was chasing the duke on a straight line i felt a presence on my right hand side, 1st i thought it was the FZ in our group then i let the throttle go because the speeds were reaching a point where i didn't feel comfortable (115km/h) then i realized it was a pulsar 220. If that guy was really trying to race me then i am surprised because i wasn't pushing the NS to the limit to catch the Duke.

There was an observation 1 of my friends made.. he felt the throttle was too free, it should give a bit of resistance. Any thoughts about that?

I was hesitating to push the bike to see the limits of the cornering capability of the pulsar because of the tyres and the stories that i have heard.

It was a good trip. came back home checked the bike Oil and coolant. everything seems to be fine.

Under city conditions , the carb is on the richer side when linear it given 35 in city condition and 44.5 in highway but speed below 65

        • i got the delivery of my pulsar 200ns today, the bikes running fine but the engine sounds a little rough compared to what i felt riding my freinds Ns, and some strange smell comes from the engine once a while and i am not ripping the bike at all, is this normal before the first service or should i have it checked?

It is perfectly normal. The engine is new and will sound a lil harsh. Your friends NS must already have completed its run in. The stange smell is also normal it comes when the engine becomes hot but will eventually go of in a few kms.

Dont rip your bike often, every once in a while going above 7k rpm for a couple of seconds is ok. Do a proper running in, change the engine oil after 100 km is possible to a better oil like Motul 3100 20W50 and enjoy your ride.

Keep posting your experiences and some pics as well.

Its normal because fresh engine has more friction / roughness. this friction reduce with time and engine become smooth. this is why bike need to change engine oil first 500-1000km.
Smell: Is that come from engine or exthaust pipe ?. Engine paint smell when its heated first few days. Did you chcked the coolant level ?

4100 kms on odo and running on motul 5100 15W50(changed at 3200) me too notice the cooked smell of the engine after ripping for some time and when the bike comes to halt. Experienced the same on pulsar 150s and 180s. Is it only pulsar's character? because I have never seen it on fzs, cbz extreme and gs150r... Please note, this smell persists even when the oil is new.

                • My Pulsar 200NS

                  Hi all,
this is my first post in this forum. i own a cherry black Pulsar 200NS, done 2600km on the odo. the bike looks brand new and seriously it is giving me mileage of 40kmpl. i generally rev it till 7000rpm and do the shifting of 4th, 5th & 6th gear shifting in the range of 6000 - 7000 rpm. i am pretty satisfied with the bikes performance. done mods to the bike too like head light is changed to phillips diamond vision 5000k, the pilot lamps to bright white LED's and added a white rim tapes too. i could feel few vibrations in the range of 4000 to 5000 rpm, as the other users said its common for all 200NS in this rpm range. recently thought of changing the airfilter to K&N or COSWORTH but could not find the exact match for the one in pulsar 200NS. i generally do all the maintyenance of my cars and bikes. i am well experienced with these things.. if any of the xbhpians have changed the airfilter in your 200NS please do reply for my post. i want your opinions regarding the airfilter change and the performance of them.

Check if there is any kind of oil / coolant leakage on the engine block.

welcome to Xbhp. Do you see any difference between the stock headlight and Philips Diamond vision?

hi sunilyo, i could find only one difference i.e., when i travel on the dusty roads the beam spread is amazing and the visibility is really nice. but on highways the visibility is not that great as the black roads doesn't reflect much white light. the problem i found is the focusing of my bike is really bad with any kind of bulb, i tried to adjust the focusing but couldn't get the correct focus. the high beam focuses really high only low beam does some work for me. Is this the same for other pulsar 200NS owners. kindly let me know.

                              nice shots there bro,
Can't believe I'm saying this.. but cherry black is the last color one should choose for his NS. It still looks GREAT (my own NS is cherry black) .. but the yellow blue & red just look so much better. especially the yellow one which I feel I should've gone with haha.. I dunno why I avoided other colors when I made my decision.. This is why the guy who made a post about someone changing the body parts for his NS to a different color gave me some hope. perhaps someday I might inquire about this from my SVC.

adjust your focus man... i am using the same bulb and its simply mindblowing.... it works best in highways...drastic improvement over stock... ypu just need to adjust the focus...

Mine will kind of breath between 1 and 1.5 rpms.
A friend of mine pointed out this today. He showed how the tacho meter in his P220 is so constant and stable (it was @ 1.5) when he halt the bike.
Is this a NS kind of thing....or need I take it to the SVC ?
dont care about it much but get the tuning checked..

How's the windblast at that speed?
And how many kms of traffic free stretch did you actually need to reach 157 kmph?
it does not have any stability whatsoever and it toook a long stretch with lots of declutch and tailing a xylo...it just kinda floaty at those speeds

I saw the half-clutch solution here on xbhp but don't know exactly when and in which thread. Also, use half-clutch only till the gears smoothen out over time. My gears were really hard before, had to use a lot of force to shift the gears up or down. Also I mostly ride wearing flip flops so I had lost some skin on my toe so riding wasn't too much fun. I began shifting using half clutch and after a few hundred kms, I could shift smoothly along with a nice click.
For those who feel shifting is hard, make sure the lever alignment is proper. Got mine aligned a little downwards and it helped me shift better (I have long legs ).

Check if the wheel alignment is proper. If yes, and you still get the sound, the disc is the culprit. Get it replaced under warranty.

Yeah, redlining in 6th on NS is hard. Btw, I remember you had mentioned earlier that you're running rich. Doesn't it mean that top speed would take a hit? Or did you make it lean again? When mine was rich I couldn't cross 142 km/h speedo indicated and after I made it a LITTLE leaner, I touched 152.

Yep, that's a good method too!

Btw Last time I was buying motul oil, the salesman kept arguing that mineral would help the bike run smoother than FS! He kept insisting I buy the mineral oil and when I refused he began abusing me! I told him to shut up, take my money and give me 300v! Looks like no one was buying his mineral oils! Btw, what is the drain interval for 300v?
well i was running rich back then but now i run on a different setting... my bikes runs on different afr and different tappet settings every other day... and u need a lot of patience to cross even 155...takes a looooot of time to reach 157... btw just a suggestion.... avoid using 300v else you might end up with a burnt clutch and reduced clutch life... pour in 7100... my oil is more than 5k old and can last atleast another 3k kms easily... its still red and thick... i do run a lot more quantity of engine oil in my bike....
