Hope the above pix is self explanatory.

      What's your take on this?

The full load current requirement for 35w hl is 2.9 amp while for 55/60 w is nearly 5 amp.

I think this setup will be able to handle that

Though i have not gone through this completly , check out for o/p total power , voltage and current available at magnet o/p , check for battery input requirements say 13-14.5 VDC and current.
If efficiency of alternator , rectifier are known you should able to just add a rectifier at alternator o/p without indulging in rewinding (direct DC source). We believe stock magneto is performing to optimum and doesn't have any juice left to charge or drive additional ( considerable) load like high watt bulb , powerfull battey etc.
Pls take second opinion from experts because fideling with electricals in automobiles is complex issue were expert mechanics too try to avoid.
Pls keep posting for any ideas , i too will work out for the same shortly once i am free from daily hectics .

I have to wait for 1-1/2 years still for warranty issues for DC conversation.looking for easy & better solution without altering much.

Either it's a small alteration or bigger one, it's against the warranty..

            • Rear Wheel

              Gents,

After a 30-60 min run on my GS150R, the rear ally wheel heats up. The vehicle has run about 200kms. Is this normal...? Or does it go away after some kms on the ODO..?

              Thanks

Which part exactly, can you explain? If tyre heats up, that's normal because of friction. Rear will heat up more than front because of the power delivery & front being steering wheel & rear being support.

                    • Alloy Wheel

rx100...It is the rear alloy wheel...not the tyre, but the Alloy. I was trying to see if the wheel is free to rotate when brake is not applied. Sometimes if the brake is tightened little more, the wheel stops quickly and you end up losing mileage. My earlier bike was a spoked wheel. Had no problem there..but when I tried to rotate the wheel by hand after putting it on centre stand, the Wheel felt pretty hot.

Are you driving with your rear brakes ? Please check if your rear wheel can rotate freely when kept on middle stand.
and also look for rear break clearance. A slight tap can engage the rear brake unintentionally

70 kpl is difficult to achieve , but doubt immposiblity for GS , though 45- 58 kpl should be actual figures . there are votes in 10-35 kpl range too , again imposiblity . most of votes may have casted by non GS users.
I have tested my bike during 3 rd service by bottle test 100ml covered 8.8 kms on trip meter , that is 88 kpl ..immpossible but proven. if ridden very causously @ 40-50 kph on 6 th gear on straight road without any twist on throtle , no cross winds , this should reach 70 kpl approx again impossiblity.

The rectifier in our bike is half wave and hence replacing the RR will not give the desired result unless it is with a full wave rectifier and connecting both ends of the stator coil to it.
Actually there is no easy solution for the headlight problem and almost all the bikes are having this issue.

This heating is common in every GS and may be there in every other bike with alloy wheels. I think the heat is conducted from the engine but not sure.
Anyway, it is not by the jamming of the brake and is not affecting the bike adversely. See how Maestro completed his saddle sore of 1600 kms within 24 hours on our bike.
