Update on my Bike

Went to the svc to get all things checked. I rode 1000kms and the oil was in between 200-300ml.One way clutch will be changed. Piston rod is having play, quite a big one this time. Things to be changed/repaired
Whole cylinder assembly,Clutch Plates, front fork seal, rear shocks, disc pads, Timing Chain, Rocker Arm,Leg Guard etc etc.
Estimated amount Rs11500, might get it reduced by few thousand as per mechanic.

I know I am spending too much on it, but I need to do Leh on this and then it would be on sale. Selling it right now would have meant depreciated value and loss for me, thats why too the decision of getting everything in working condition, atleast for the last few months of its life.

Hello People i own a Apache RTR 180 since october 2010 and am really proud to have it. I believe that there is no other bike like RTR in 150 to 180 segment but we all in this forum have had some issues with the service or the bike or even had suggestions for the company to improve. I know it has been very frustrating to go to the service center as we are not satisfied with the way they service the bikes and that is the reason why I have personally taken it as a challenge to go and take every bodies suggestions and their grievances and try put forward them to the company. Im sure this will help us all and the company to know what the customer expects from them and the issues that people are facing with their bikes. If possible we can request them to have camps to have a check up on the bikes too.
Im doing all this because i have had worst time with the service and because of which my bikes piston block has been opened 4 times in the last 4 months but that is not the only reason i do believe in the company and the product and i would hate to see it slip further into dumps. I request you fellow Apachians to be apart of it and send me pics, suggestions, videos whatever way you can connect with the company. I am based in mumbai and i would personally come and meet people from mumbai and talk to them about it.
In the end i would like to say that your time wont be wasted your efforts wont go in vain because i am in touch with Someone who holds a very important post in TVS and im sure with the support of all RTR owners it will be an eye opener for them. You can get in touch with me anytime on 09892351414 / email id is- [email protected].

I already told you man, its a brilliant idea. Everyone here would at some point faced some issue, be it svc or some quality issue with the components in our bike. I, for one dont visit their svc centres any more. It would be nice to share some feedbacks, positives/negatives and our individual perception of the bike .Let the company know how much we love them. Also how much we want the SVC scenario to change. Probably next month, me , Bhavin (A4D) and a few others would meet up and have a general discussion. Maybe plan a ride as well. If anyone in and around mumbai plans to join, they are welcome. Looking forward to some suggestions. Cheers!

Very true Sid. What you are saying is absolutely correct and i can assure you that its not just us who care about it, i have spoken to someone from the company who also believes the same and wants to bring changes but as per him it is a slow process. So as you said hopefully we will meet for a ride and also meet fellow Apachians who care share the issues and opinions.

I totally understand what you are saying and i have personally used the emails shared on this Forum but what is happening is that one person sending them a mail at one point will solve the issue faced at that moment by that person, which i have been doing for 3 years and the Tvs company guys have been very nice to me and taken my word everytime, but my issue is that i had to keep going back to them and opening my block piston 4 times is no joke. That is the reason why i would like to join hands with people and forward it to the company. Im very sorry about the fact that i cant name the person from the company as he dosent want to be Named. One more thing im sure the territory managers would be able to give you utmost support. I would be waiting for suggestions from you

Hello fellow apacheans,
I have a TVS Apache RTR HE model which I bought in September 2013. My bike has so far done 3.5k km on odo. I have completed two free services so far. I once took my bike to the SVC complaning about tappet noise. My bike had done 1.2k km then. The mechanic said it was not tappet noise but some other noise coming from the engine. He said he had to tighten a nut to fix it. When I drove my bike for a few kms after his fix I had the same noise again. I took it back to the SVC and he said that this time it is the tappet noise and so he again opened my engine. This time when he returned me my bike I could see engine oil leaking from the oil filter region. I said nothing. Simply took the bike. Rode for a few kms and then again when the engine got hot I started having tappet noise. Later I came to know via xbhp that tappet noise is a feature of RTR engins. The tappet noise in my engine was not extreme at any time. It was only loud whed the engine got really hot. Since I didnt know that all apache bikes have some tappet niose I panicked and took my bike to the SVC. Now since that day I am having the following issues
1. When rev my bike and then let go of the throttle I am getting this really annoying noise from the bike. The noise is difficult to describe. This noise is most audible at night when I drive my bike on empty roads.
My hypothesis: I feel that as I let go of the throttle after reving up the engine the vibrations in the bike increase momentarily and at this point I hear that noise. The noise produced is like when some keys in a key chain vibrate. I also feel that the noise is coming from the front end of the bike.
2. When I drive my bike with a pillion up a steep sloop I have engine knocking sound even in first gear!!
My hypothesis: None
3. The maximum speed attained by my bike so far is only 105kmph. The bike just refuses to go over 105kmph and at that speed the vibrates are felt on the foot pegs too.
My hypothesis: Maximun speed of stock apache RTR 160 is 105kmph.

Can anyone help me with my troubles. I really love the feel and handling of this bike. I am planning to take my bike to a private mechanic in a few days. Can any one suggest me a good mechanic in Pune. I am from Hinjewadi. Someone suggested me a mechanic in Shivaji Nagar but that guy is a Pulsar mechanic. Also how much will a full engine service cost from a private mechanic?

I wouldn't suggest you to take your bike to a private mechanic so soon, that too for engine work will surely void your warranty.

Check your manual for the top speed. I would suggest u take it to a different service centre rather than visiting a private mechanic.

Guys,... I haven't been much active on this thread ever since my MBA classes started. And now, I have the term break going on. Thus, the best time to get my bike serviced

Please direct me to the nearest service station where you have a good experience. I am currently at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. I previously (before joining the college) used to get my bike serviced from Raj TVS at Kaushambi, Ghaziabad.

Thanks in advance

Get the tappets adjusted using a feeler gauge. Also, is the chain lubed/cleaned regularly? Check all panel joints, maybe some part has loosened.

Rev matching might help. Try launching post 2-2.5k RPM in first gear on steep slopes. Most Indian bikes face this problem (except Bullets) due to low(er) torque figures (w.r.t RE). Also, there is a limit to the incline that ANY machine can do.

3. The maximum speed attained by my bike so far is only 105kmph. The bike just refuses to go over 105kmph and at that speed the vibrates are felt on the foot pegs too.

I guess speedo indicated 115 might be possible. Check for ire pressure and air filter condition. Also, your carb maybe tuned towards the leaner side. Additionally, you can get the carb diaphragm checked.

Update :
Gave my bike to SVC for thorough check up. The first thing they checked was valves, they were fried, and directly asked them, have you got any other "silencer". I hesitantly said yes. And to that they told me that it was creating too much "back pressure". My whole engine has to be rebuild.
Got a call from them just now, Bill approx touching whooping 12k figure and 1200 to mechanic for things he has changed from his pocket. Looks like a genuine guy, but still placing a bet on him.
Will go at 12.30 to collect my bike.
Will attach the bill for reference when I return.

If you had a FFE it would fry the valves, if the Carb., had not been adjusted for it.. Back pressure will not fry the valve...FFE will make the engine run lean since scavenging will be faster and during Valve overlap, will make the AF mix lean... More Air can be allowed through inlet, and corresponding increase in Fuel should also be allowed in, otherwise the AF mix will be more air and less Fuel.

Does that 12k include all the changes that you mentioned in an earlier post? Wish your RTR will be back in action soon. psr, I have read most of your post on diesel engine oil, infact when ever I am online & I read you Id in new posts I click the post irrespective of the thread. Now my query is about the same as many of us (RTR owners) have crossed 20k-30k km, what do you think about diesel engine oil in Apache's engine? If we can then which one? Thanks!
