  • Had a rough road and smoothest rides yesterday at tamhini and some straight roads from pen to pune, the technique in off road i used was to keep the bike revving above 8 k rpm in 2nd and 3rd gear in the potholed road and i was standing on the footpegs through out the road for 805 of time, though i had to curve more towards front but the bike handled and performed well in rains slush everything, she is close to 20 k kms and checked the top end on straight road and she was hitting 129 siting and after crouch took her till 140 and still she could have gone further but i dropped the plan.

Now my question is is the Stock chain built to perform and give full top end till the last setting or not?

Secondly, i wanted to know if i can make changes in the battery charger so it supports 9amp Amaron batttery.

Thanks Stefanm. I have all the Joel's goodies except for the ECU. I want to try 55W bulbs or HID kits, therefore I was thinking of 5 Amp. How much impact the charging takes. Do I need to get the battery charged every month or so.

Not sure you'll be able to get it to support a 9amp battery, but a 5 amp can be done, have a look here http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...d-etc-208.html possibly as you're running a stock ECU a 5 amp battery should run on stock charging, for the 9 amp, you'll need to recharge the battery every 9 months or so, Abhimanyu had mentioned this a few pages back, he also uses the RD ECU, which consumes more power over the stock item

See the above link, if charging is needed it will be long stretches between (at least 9 months), so don't stress too much, I run mostly a single HID, on dark roads I switch on the second one, both work on low and high beam, thinking about doing the winding job as well as a guarantee to keep the battery in good shape.
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Thanks... One last query.... Does 5Amp Amaron fit directly fit in the housing.

          • My bike is 2 years old. It has run 17000 kms. Today, I changed the oil and found out that I got only around 700 ml instead of 1 litre. Is this by any chance a cause for me to worry about the piston rings? I have changed oil at 3000 kms interval throughout and I am on semi synthetic oil for the past 1.5 years. There are no performance issues. Please help.

yes, but there is a sponge under the existing battery, remove it(it is glued to the housing, so takes some effort).. after removing it, the 5Ah fits directs but is a bit loose, add some paper/cloth and then you're good to go..
after monday and tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!!

Was the cap fitted perfectly or did the actual oil filled was less than 1 litre,

I think the same sponge can be used by trimming right as it will be best fit

The cap was and has been fitted properly always. I have been changing the oil myself for the past 1.5 years. Never has a drop of oil leaked out of the drain nut.

                  • ^^^ have you undertaken any extended runs at high speeds under hot conditions? If yes, then it could very well be oil evaporation.

                    • how much oil (semi synthetic) does normally evaporate for a drain period of 3000 kms under normal city drivings and heavy rippings with high speed runs?

                      • ^^^ there is no general yardstick for oil evaporation. Its a variable that depends on numerous factors including make of oil, running conditions, quality of oil after a number of kms completed, etc. For example, where oil has run for 'x' kms and has lost significant quantities of additives that help maintain oil viscosity over a range of heat index, oil evaporation will take place rapidly and in large quantity once the boiling point is reached.

I would suggest that you switch over to fully synthetic oil such as Motul 300V for better oil protection. One more thing that you should check out is your engine's cooling system. Ensure that the cooling system is clean and has enough coolant in it. Running a engine with low coolant and/or choked cooling system will lead to excessive heat build up which is also a factor in oil evaporation.

                        • Does anyone has DIY to do basic things like coolant refilling, checking levels, checking brake pads and the levels, the bearing checkups and all.

It would be great if we all can share our knowledge here so all the owners of R15 V1 can go through and use it.
