Then when i asked the manager she told me those are guys from Yamaha Japan R&D. She asked me to talk to them and bring out my queries. So i said Hi and started talking to them asking them about the engine oil. I couldnt really make out what they replied back in English. It was in a Japanese accent. Then they asked me how is the performance of the bike. I told them that the handling and feedback is just brilliant. Especially on corners. You woudnt believe it but they felt as happy as a 2 year old child would be if you give him a chocolate. I never expected Yamaha Japan R&D engineers (this is the same team that also designed the R1 if im not wrong) to be so down to earth and to get happy just by listening to a few good words about their quality product. I thought they already knew how good the bike was. They were thanking me a lot and then they asked me to provide some feedback on the bike. I said it could do a little more with low end power and a more powerful low beam light. To this they nodded in agreement and talked in Japanase for a moment amongst themselves and they also noted it down in their notepad. Then came one of the best moments of my life. They asked me if they could take a photo of me standing beside my R15. I never expected something like this to happen in my wildest dreams. I think you people can already guess the feeling reading my post.
Heheh, this had happened with me when the R15 wasn't even launched! A service engineer had come to assemble and PDI an R1 sold through the same place where you bought your bike. A friend called me, and I went flying there! I asked the Japanese guy a lot of questions about the R15, but he didn't give anything away...

And to a question I put (is Yamaha planning a 200+cc bike sometime in the next few years) he just smiled and babbled in Japanese with his interpreter. (Yeah, there was a translator with him!).

    What should I do guys?

I checked the fuse and its fine, not blown.

Edit: SVC guys came and checked the bike, it seems there is a wiring problem.. I'll have to take the bike to SVC tomorrow. What could be the problem? The bike was running fine till last night, it rained today, can that be a issue?
Since you've tampered with the stock wiring and installed the security system, chances are that it is indeed an electrical fault. Or worse, a current leak somewhere, which has drained the battery totally.
    You get the point?? :D

Generally the power produced is given a 10% tolerance. Which means, in case of the R15 it can be 15.3 bhp to 18.7 bhp even!

10 out of a batch of 100 engines are tested to within these tolerances, and yes, the lower out put ones are also installed, unless there is something drastically wrong with the engine performance.

So if you are running in your bike using a varied method, yes there will be a difference in the power output after the running in has been completed.
Its a known fact that no 2 same make engines produce identical power. There is always some variation. In fact, if the same engine is tested on the same dyno multiple times it can give multiple results.

If your contention of using 'varied method' of running in were to be considered true, the engine with positive variation i.e. 18.7 Bhp should make even more power... but does that really happen??? ... the variations in power output are hard to explain fully... most good tuners agree that let alone different engines,.... different cylinders in the same engine have different power outputs and identifying the cause for the variation is difficult...

        • ^^ dude im not contending anything. just explaining the power difference that can be there between two engines for the same bike.

If anyone was to ask me about running in, my view is -

          - For you peace of mind, follow the owners manual.

          - Dont be completely dumb and follow the owners manual, understand your machine, know when you are stressing it, know what the limits are and how to keep your running in as smooth and unstressed on the engine as possible.

              • Does anyone know how much the stock front tyre of the R15 costs ? What about its availability in Bangalore ? Mine looks like it needs to be replaced in another 1 - 2 k.

Out of curiosity does anyone know how much the Dazzlers MRF 110 / 80 - 17 rear costs ? Im currently using MRFs 100/90 - 17 for the rear and except for the raised rear height which puts a little more pressure on my wrists, Im quite happy with the tyre.

I have fallen in love with them.

Also i badly need to lube my Chain as it is Dried out. some sound is heard while i accelerate, i believe it is because of my dry chain.

So what are the negative if i don't lube the chain properly?.

I didnt exactly remember the individual price but it was around Rs. 390 (chain lube). The printed price is Rs.480 and Rs.450 for chain lube and chain clean respectively.

Do you recommend getting the R15 serviced at Andheri?
Had done my first service at Malad, no doubt the did a nice job. But for my convenience (stay in thane and work in andheri east) I would like to try out Andheri for my second service, Any feedback about the service level quality at Andheri.

For diff b/w mineral & ss oil, pay a visit to the Engine Oils thread.
Roughness depends on the distance which the oil has run. Did you check the oil level using the dipstick method?

Don't run the bike on a dry chain. If you do not lube the chain, it will cause the O-rings & the links to go bad, & will result in roughness in drive & power output. You will end up damaging the sprockets too!!
Invest in a chain spray, & DIY everytime the chain appears dry, & especially after riding in the rain.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

You're welcome! Even I used to get it lubed at the same place when I got my bike over a year ago. They charged 100 & used Motul Chain Spray then.
